A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a former number one, has had a difficult season, managing just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in specific - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with former mentor his previous coach.

Currently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently improved in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought competitive win over opponent Moutet.

This marks the player's initial title since the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court since spring of that year.

Success also means he has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one different tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to get a title is particularly special," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his last six finals, including in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and recurring emotional displays on court had led observers to wonder if his capacity to perform at the top level was concluded.

Yet the player has altered his approach in the past month, striving to advance forward and play aggressively, supported by an better serving game.

The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging opponent, securing 4 of the last five points to take the lead.

Both players exchanged break points in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his first ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to create a final set.

The opponent defended 4 early break points in a tight third set before the Russian broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched victory with a rally at the net area, with Moutet unable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
